A Toronto century home with a long and narrow layout gets a main floor makeover by designer Philippe Beauparlant Learn his tips for creating a functional floor plan and discover how he modernized the dated home Plus see the home s standout feature wall The home lacked a defined entryway so Philippe added floor to ceiling cabinetry and a patterned cement tile walkway to create the illusion of a vestibule The living room fireplace gets a modern makeover while old furniture is replaced with new pieces to fit the small space In the dining area a unique wall made of terracotta brick makes a statement and segments the room from the stairway Just off the dining room a pocket door conceals the powder room for added privacy Philippe completely transformed the drab kitchen with additional counter space as well as large windows and doors for more natural light A backyard retreat offers an outdoor oasis in the middle of the city MORE DESIGN INSPIRATION CONNECT WITH HOUSE HOME
